  • William Whitelaw, Secretary of State for N Ireland, 5 Royal Marine commandos at Stormont Castle, Belfast, N Ireland, following their timely intervention in rioting in Larne, Co Antrim, in which one man was killed and 14 were injured. When called upon the commandos were camped outside Larne with young children from Belfast on a weekend outing. Whitelaw described the commandos intervention as "magnificent". The part-time post had been checked out for booby trap bombs but none had been detected. Two soldiers provide cover for the rescue helicopter as it flies in for the dead and injured.   • Michael James Malachy Hughes, 16 years, Newry, Co Down, who was shot dead by a British Army Royal Marine during a bus hi-jacking incident on 18th October 1974. The army's version of events, that Michael had pointed a pistol at them, was disputed. Michael was given an Provisional IRA funeral and shots were fired over his grave. Two years earlier Michael's father, Patrick Hughes, died with 8 others when a bomb exploded prematurely.  197410180589.<br />

On a day trip on Saturday 22 June 2002 from the Clyde it dropped off  some of its passengers and picked up Irish passengers for a 2 hour cruise along the Antrim Coast before returning to the Clyde.   • The one remaining large calibre coastal gun being prepared for a ceremonial firing. Over 100 years old it was one of several guarding the entrance to Belfast Lough which provides marine access to the capital of N Ireland. Grey Point Fort was a coastal defence battery designed to defend the entrance to Belfast Lough and which now houses a museum focusing on military history.
