  • The mother of 3 year old Michelle O'Connor, is comforted by family members at her daughter's grave. Michelle died when a UDA/UFF booby trap bomb exploded when she was getting into the family car along with her father, John O'Connor, who received very serious injuries but survived. Michelle was being taken to nursery school. The incident took place on 13th June 1975. The funeral on 16th June 1975 was from the Holy Rosary Church on the Ormeau Road, Belfast, and was attended by hundreds of Protestants as well as Roman Catholics. No reason could be found for the attack other than sectarianism. 197506160497c<br />

  • Unionist MP Frank Millar lends his support to protesters blocking the Crumlin Road, Belfast, N Ireland between the courthouse and the prison opposite.  The protesters were highlighting the plight of Frank Newell who on appeal had his sentence doubled to 8 years. He maintains his innocence of the armed robbery for which he was convicted. 12th June 1975. Frank Newell was eventually cleared after 40 years in June 2014. 197506120498a.<br />

  • British Army Major, Mike Kearon, 38 years, who drove a postal delivery truck with a 150 lbs Provisional IRA bomb on board to the dockside in Londonderry, N Ireland, UK, during The Troubles.  Within 30 seconds after pushing the vehicle into the river it exploded sending the doors 300 ft into the air. The van had been hijacked in the Bogside and the driver was ordered to take it to the central post office building.
