  • Sidney Pollock, assistant chief fire officer, Belfast Fire Brigade, attending the funeral of Brian Douglas, a 23 year old fireman who was shot dead by the UDA/UFF during gunfire from Sandy Row on 7th February 1973.   • Isaac Scott, Protestant, ex-member, UDR, Ulster Defence Regiment, who was shot dead by Provisional IRA after leaving Tully's Bar, Belleek, Newtownhamilton, Co Armagh, 9th July 1973. Aged 41 he was single. Scott's murder is believed to have prompted the UFF/UDA tit-for-tat murder of a 20 year old Roman Catholic, Charles McDonnell, on 22nd August 1973. 197307100560<br />

  • Policeman with binoculars observes the Dundalk to Londonderry goods train which was hijacked at Meigh, Co Armagh, N Ireland by the Provisional IRA on 15th August 1973. The raiders placed two milk churn bombs in the cab of CIE locomotive 201 and made off with mailbags in the leading carriage. The line was eventually cleared on the 17th August 1973 when a British Army marksman triggered the bomb on his ninth shot. 197308160419<br />

  • Patrick Duffy, Rathlin Drive, Creggan Estate, Derry / Londonderry, who was abducted by the Provisional IRA  when Mr Duffy was in Buncrana with his wife to celebrate their wedding anniversary on 8th August 1973. The IRA claimed that Mr Duffy was a special branch informer. His body was found on the N Ireland-Rep of Ireland Border on 24th August 1973 and his funeral took place 3 days later. 197308270565.<br />

  • A detective at Dundonald RUC station, N Ireland, examines the vehicle in which Jack Mooney was killed and two colleagues, all Roman Catholics, were travelling when they arrived to start the night shift at the local Rolls-Royce factory. The UDA/UFF gun attack was on New Year's Day 1973, 1st January 1973. Jack Mooney, 31 years, was married with 2 children.   • Funeral of Provisional IRA leader, James Bryson, 26 years, married, of Ballymurphy Road, Belfast, N Ireland, on its way to  Milltown Cemetery. Bryson, one of seven escapees from the prison ship Maidstone was shot by the British Army on 22nd September 1973. Another man, Patrick Mulvenna, travelling in the same car was shot dead. A third passenger in the car was injured.   • Following the disappearance on 2nd September 1973 of 10 year old Belfast boy, Brian McDermott, there was a noticable increase in the number of adults picking up children at Brian’s school.   • Forensic officers examine the sports car, owned by a policeman, who along with his girlfriend, were injured when it exploded as a result of a booby-trap bomb. Although injured they survived. It later transpired that the girlfriend was a sister-in-law of Bernadette McAliskey, aka Bernadettte Devlin.
