Soldier stands guard as detectives examine car in which the body of Stephen Kernan, 56 years, taxi driver, Roman Catholic, from Newtownabbey, N Ireland, was found in a car in the loyalist Shankill Road area of Belfast on 1st March 1973. The weapon used in the killing had been stolen from the RUC and it was later recovered in a security force search in Sandy Row, another loyalist area of Belfast. 1973030§0116.
