Soldiers examine bullet-riddled car belonging to William Elliott, head postmaster, Newry, Co Down, N Ireland, who was murdered in a hail of bullets by the Provisional IRA. It is believed that the IRA thought he was a police officer. Mr Elliott, along with a colleague who was only slightly wounded, had gone to investigate a weekend break-in at Silverbridge sub post office. Mr Elliott from Armagh had served in the Royal Navy in the Second World War. 24th March 1975. 197503240436a.
