British Army Major, Mike Kearon, 38 years, who drove a postal delivery truck with a 150 lbs Provisional IRA bomb on board to the dockside in Londonderry, N Ireland, UK, during The Troubles. Within 30 seconds after pushing the vehicle into the river it exploded sending the doors 300 ft into the air. The van had been hijacked in the Bogside and the driver was ordered to take it to the central post office building. Another postman was held hostage until the bomb was “delivered”. 20th June 1973. 197306200447a
