Colonel Malcolm Mackenzie-Orr, RAOC, Royal Army Ordnance Corps, demonstrating a Provisional IRA DIY rocket launcher captured in a planned search in Belfast, N Ireland, UK. The weapon was constructed from lavatory pipes and joints as used by plumbers. A few months later Mackenzie-Orr defused a massive van bomb beside a Belfast telephone exchange for which he was awarded the George Cross. After he had foiled the attempt to destroy the exchange, it was feared he might become a terrorist target and he was re-assigned to the weapons research establishment in Woomera, South Australia. He left the military having achieved the rank of brigadier. He died 16th December 2007 in Australia. 197307050472a.
