Meehan_Maura_funeral_19711023042MM4.jpg
The funeral of Mrs Maura Meehan, 31 years, of Brantry Street, Belfast, exits unto the Falls Road from Clonard Street. Maura Meehan who, along with her sister Dorothy Maguire, were members of Cumann na mBan, the Women's IRA, were the first members of that organisation to die in the Troubles. They died in a disputed shooting incident involving a British Army patrol in the Lower Falls. They were allegedly sounding the car horn of a vehicle driven by William Patrick Davidson to warn of the presence of soldiers. The soldiers claimed that a gun was pointed at them. 19711023042MM4.
