The scene of devastation in Causeway Road, Newcastle, Co Down, N Ireland, UK, after a Provisional IRA bomb exploded en route to a target. The bombers, an engaged couple, died instantaneously in the blast as their car was ripped apart. The incident happened just before midnight on 21st July 1973 in a quiet suburb of one of N Ireland's most popular seaside resorts. The couple, both 21 years, who died were Alphonsus Cunningham, from nearby Annalong, and Pauline Kane, from Castlewellan. 197307210513d
