A shopper pauses to pay her respects as the funeral of Constable David Montgomery passes through the city centre in Belfast, N Ireland on 29th January 1972. Constable Mongomery, along with another police officer, Sergeant Peter Gilgun, died in a Provisional IRA gun attack on 27th January 1972 on Creggan Road, Londonderry. Constable Montgomery had been due for a transfer from Londonderry but had been allowed to stay on until June when he planned to marry a 19 year old local girl. 197201290063b
